Project Team

Meghan Alexander is an Associate Professor in Human Geography at the University of Nottingham, specialising in climate change adaptation. Her research concentrates on matters of governance, policy and risk management, and corresponding implications for societal resilience, wellbeing and climate justice. In particular, Meghan is interested in how governance systems evolve over time, why systems become stuck or ‘locked-in’ and how governance enables or constrains meaningful and socially just climate action. Meghan is leading the CARE project and examining how in/justices are shaped through current systems of governance and crucially how these might be altered to facilitate just transitions under future climate change.

Sarah Bezan is Lecturer in Literature and the Environment in the School of English & Digital Humanities at University College Cork, where she is also a founding member of the Radical Humanities Laboratory. As an interdisciplinary researcher, Sarah's work focuses on de-extinction/species revival, necro-ecologies, and speculative future natures. Her first monograph in progress, Dead Darwin: Necro-Ecologies in Neo-Victorian Culture, is under advance contract with Manchester University Press.

Rachel Dishington is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the CARE project based in the School of Geography, University of Nottingham. She has a background in history and human geography and is interested in how histories of environment, science and technology can help us to understand and address contemporary environmental problems.

Neelke Doorn is Professor in the ‘Ethics of Water Engineering’ and Chair of the Department Values, Technology and Innovation at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Neelke holds master's degrees in Civil Engineering (TU Delft, 1997), Philosophy (Leiden, 2005), and Law (Open University, 2016). In May 2011, she obtained her PhD degree from the TU Delft for her thesis on Moral Responsibility in R&D Networks. Her primary research is dedicated to moral questions in water governance and engineering, particularly in relation to climate change and resilience policy.

Maria Kaufmann is a multi-disciplinary environmental governance scholar at the Institute for Management Research (Radboud University, Netherlands), where she also co-coordinates the faculty-wide network TransAct on sustainability transformations. Her work explores how societies move toward just sustainability transformations, or why they fail. She studies climate adaptation, energy transitions, and alternative economic ideas like degrowth, driven by a fascination with unpacking what stakeholders mean by ‘justice’: what is considered to be fair, how distributions of benefits and burdens are justified, and how these justice narratives influence change.

Adam Searle is a cultural and historical geographer from Manchester, currently an Associate Professor in Human Geography at the University of Nottingham. His research broadly examines the relations and politics of technology and ecology. He works collaboratively with artists and public institutions, including the Natural History Museum and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London, and the Naturhistorisches Museum of Vienna. He is a founding member of the Digital Ecologies research group and an editor of Digital Ecologies: Mediating More-than-human Worlds (2024, Manchester) and On the Metabolic Governance of Life (2027, Manchester).

Christopher Woodard is Professor of Moral and Political Philosophy at the University of Nottingham, and editor of the journal Utilitas. He works on theories of moral obligation, justice, and well-being. His most recent book is Taking Utilitarianism Seriously (OUP, 2019).
